The Petra family is an old elitist pureblood family founded in 1250 A.C. by Athanasios Nectarios Petra in what was known as the Byzantine Empire. Quickly moving to Italy, it was there that the family started to thrive. The family has been politically active ever since its beginning, and quickly built its own empire on the ruins of Rome.
Around 1260 A.C., a big part of the Petra Family moved from Rome to the United Kingdom under the lead of Athanasios' younger twin brother Thanasis Petra. This proved itself an important turning point for the young pureblood family. Due to trickery, deceit, betrayal and leter even Athanasios' suspicious death in 1272 A.C., the familial power and its family seat of power moved to the United Kingdom.
Generally on the fence when it comes to blood statis issues, the Petra have a general disdain for muggles, but are unwilling to be overly cruel to muggles or muggleborns. Still, they rarely run in the same circles with them.

Amaranth Valli Petra, as the 16th Patriarch of the Petra Family, came from a long line of Wizards. He values his family name highly and will not take kindly to anyone who tries to step in the way of something he wants.
