Pure-Blood Supremacist?

The middle of three daughters, Andromeda is the 'ugly duckling' of the Black family. Though she shares the same patrician beauty as Bellatrix, almost her twin in appearance, - lighter hair and wider eyes aside - she does not have the the recklessness and daring that the eldest Black sister displays, nor the determination towards blood purity that makes her parents so proud. Neither does she share Narcissa;'s delicate grace nor her obedience and submissiveness, qualities that make the youngest Black a perfect candidate for the wife to a pure-blood male.

At Hogwarts, Andromeda is ostracized by her peers - sneered at by the Slytherins because of her refusal to partake in hazing rituals, rejected by the other houses because of the reputation that the Black name carries, and the whispered stories that Bellatrix left at Hogwarts. Still, Andromeda carries herself with the dignity of a Black, appearing unmoved by the shunning of the other students; rather, she further distances herself from them, rarely deigning to speak to anyone unless forced by occasion and earning herself a reputation as an Ice Princess.

Top of her class, especially excelling in Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts, she spends almost all of her time alone in the library, claiming a secluded table near the back of the stacks. There she pours over books of all types - not just the Dark Arts books that her sister limited herself to. Desperate to make her parents proud, to gain the praise that her sisters earn easily, Andromeda searches futilely for something that will convince her of the cause that her family so deeply supports. But in her hunt for evidence that the Dark Lord is justified in his insistence on pure-blood supremacy, she finds herself uncovering more doubts than answers.
